The Skirt that stopped me sewing

By 03:01

A while again I brought this navy blue polka dot fabric with the intention of making a button down the front dress...think Liv Tyler in Amegeden when Ben Afleck is doing the animal cracker thing.

I had the pattern for the dress however I am yet to master (attempt) buttonholes. Turns out you need buttonholes for a button down dress.

I was getting restless and thought I would make a quick and easy pleat skirt. I got my fabric, cut the length I wanted, did a lovely wee hem, thought I was a very clever girl pinning in my pleats then stitching them in... Everything was going well up until this point then I sat there thinking I now have a piece of fabric with pleats in it and no idea what to do from here.

I however did kept on fumbling away, next to turn it from a rectangle of fabric in to a skirt. Zipper time

Turns out the instructions on the zip packet didn't really make sense to me. I should have Goggled sooner but decided to put machine to fabric instead. I learn from being told, I should have watched a tutorial instead if trying to read instructions.

When I tried it on (unfinished, it still requires a waistband) I felt terrible, the skirt was no cute at all!!! It was like wearing the colots of my primary school uniform. All poofy and unflattering and unshapely.

I was devastated. After a week of looking at the skirt nightly thinking 'how am I going to fix you' I gave up and I put it at the bottom of my fabric pile. Then curled up on the couch with a crochet project and decided maybe sewing just wasn't for me.

After a recent trip to see family and telling my Kaz (who is a great sewer) about the skirt and a trip to Spotlight I was reinspired. I will show you all my latest projects soon but thought it was important to mention about when stuff doesn't work too.

I'm not sure what the future holds for the navy blue polka dot skirt. I may be recycled for another project (isn't it great this is an option) or I may attempt again to make it work.
